Internships & Volunteers
We are committed to providing a meaningful and challenging internship or volunteer experience. There is a lot to be learned about curating,project management and arts administration especially on such a quick turnaround.
Ideal Candidate: Interns should be personable, self-starters, creative, resourceful, proactive and organized in their specific talent that matches our organization’s needs. Taking self-initiative is necessary for working in a creative and flexible working environment. Interns will join a committee (listed below) to accomplish certain goals. All backgrounds are welcomed.
Areas of Interest: We are seeking a number of dedicated interns for specific roles to help sustain the organization.
1. Design-graphic design skills necessary for invitations, signage, displays, flyers, website
2. Event and Program planning- help manage events and come up with new programs
3. Grant Writing and Fundraising- research grants and other fund raising opportunities and collaboration
4. Project and Exhibition Management- orchestrate the installation, management and (de)installation of an exhibition
5. Press and Public Relations- knowledge in press releases and networking favored website
6. Photography and Videographers- Record images for exhibits/special events. Must have experience in photographic lighting, composition, editing and archiving to various formats.
Major benefits: Learn in a hands-on approach the ins and out of curatorship and arts administration within New York City’s art scene. Also valuable are the opportunities in contributing meaningfully to an organization that aims to bring high caliber art to the public. Procedure is we discuss the intern's objectives and outline his or her responsibilities (Packet Agreement). At the end, we provide a final evaluation at the end of the committed term. Academic credit may be available.
Expectations and Directions:
Interns are expected to devote a certain amount of time per week for a specific duration. Interns should be working towards their objective goals. Interns must be willing to help with administrative work such as exhibition support*. Send an email to internships@nolongerempty.org titled with what position you are inquiring about. Please attach your resume and how you envision your contribution to NLE’s organization.
*Exhibition support entails sitting one or two shifts at the exhibition and representing and introducing NLE for visitors. Some database entry required.
