Framing Art in 21st Century: Panel Discussion @ Volta
March 7, 3pm
|
In an effort to infuse children and young adults with an excitement for and understanding of art, and to broaden their concept of "what is art?", we will offer tours of distinctive art and cultural sites downtown
All tours will be engaging and interactive with children and teenagers sharing their views of each exhibit. Activities are tailored to meet the interests and ages of each group (Group II ages 6 - 9 and group II ages 10 - 14). Children under twelve must be accompanied by an adult.
Chelsea Day- Saturday March 6th
12 - 2pm starting at The Chelsea Art’s building (526 West 26th Street).
The group will visit two galleries and an artist’s studio to understand the art works’s themes and aesthetics in context of the exhibition with one or two pieces studied in depth (according to the ages of the group). Afterwards, the group will visit a nearby artist’s studio for a perspective of how and where work is created. The group will end at the meeting place at 2pm.
Downtown Sunday March 7th
12pm- 2pm at Billy’s Bakery (75 Franklin Street btwn Broadway and Church Street)
This tour will offer children and parents an inside view of how art is created. The group will visit three artist studios and have the opportunity to see art works at various stages of completion and talk to artists about the process. If time allows, there will be a gallery visit

Framing Art in the 21st Century
Panel Discussion: Volta Art Fair
March 7, 3pm
Moderated by Lindsay Pollock
As the music and publishing industries are struggling with the question of distribution as discs move to downloads and magazines and books morph into .coms and tablets, how might these alternate forms impinge on the viewing and consumption of art? Taking this in tandem with the changed economic landscape, how do we envision that art will be disseminated/sold/ exhibited in the coming decades? How will arts organization be challenged to find alternative, less conventional ways to show art to reach new publics?
