Inflated inner tubes, gold paint, Milagros and safety ties. 108 x 30 inches.

Cathedral/Catedral consists of stacked inner tubes/life savers ‘dipped’ in gold paint so as to resemble a temporary alter or monument to immigrants and their aspirations. Interspersed with milagros (prayer cards) in different languages, referencing the diversity of immigrant origins on the journey each “supplicant” can bring to this alter memories of home, religion, and history. The backs of the prayer cards resemble airport suitcase ID tags and each viewer is invited to fill out specific information on the card. Integrating the information of the various participants, Cathedral/Catedral can become a floating monument to the origins, aspirations and experiences of the community formed through the exhibition.
