The work of Bobby Anspach is informed by studies in philosophy, theology, art, and perceptual neuroscience. Inspired by his journey practicing Buddhism and attending meditation retreats, Anspach aims to foster accessible mindfulness practices by creating spaces of solitary tranquility for individuals to experience. Entering inside a box attached to a disused patient lift, one perceives the machine with a new function and meaning: through the rare exercise of making continuous eye contact with oneself, one is reminded of the importance of engaging ourselves and others with care and compassion.
