FreeStyle Archityper #8, 2014
Mirror polished stainless steel. Dimensions variable to site.
With its swooping curves and mirror polished metallic surfaces, Carlos Mare’s FreeStyle Archityper #8 (2014) embodies the interplay of light, material form and space, in which his improvised sculpture installation serves to reflect and direct movements in the environment and of its spectators.
The large twisting arabesque metal shapes form themselves into directional arrows that echo street signage and the abbreviated, informational iconography of graffiti. These asymmetrical forms in Mare’s installation are both visually arresting and spatially complex reflecting the constantly shifting language of urban life and its relationship to architectural design. This is the 8th unique installment of FreeStyle Archityper which repurposes materials from previous installations.
