NLE Lab: Remix Rememory
Curtis Talwst Santiago depicts absent or misinterpreted narratives through history, investigating issues of memory, ancestry, and representation in the contemporary diasporic experience.
The three works on view are from the ongoing Infinity series of miniature dioramas in ring boxes. These works reference both personal and cultural narratives of loss and reclamation, and, in their small scale and close detail, place marginalized stories in an esteemed light. Echoing the manner in which ring boxes often contain precious items turned over from generation to generation, Santiago’s sculptures carry visual depictions of inherited histories and post-memories—memories passed down—arching back through non-linear time.
