In (after)care, writer and theatremaker Diane Exavier continues the ongoing exploration of health and wellness in East Flatbush that she began in 2017. Through a three-part project celebrating practices of local vibrancy, Each Body Is (Still) a Miracle contains the essay Adelva Called Adela, which unfolds across the hallway; the takeaway booklet By Numbers By Miracles; and a meditative exercise in commitment in the workshop Petit Plasaj. Investigating care for histories, selves, families, and neighbors, this work evolves from Exavier’s urgent questions of how to survive in a rapidly changing neighborhood. Through the voices and bodies of those pushed to the margins, Exavier’s work seeks to share something with the neighborhood that has provided her creative inspiration.
