Creating Greenwich Village (2013)
Fiber reactive dye on cotton
60 x 48 in.
In Jennifer Maravillas’ digital rendering of the map of Greenwich Village, each of the various blocks of color represent an art or literary space from the past or present, and vacancies where one could exist in the future (as explained in the accompanying color-coded legend). The map was printed at the Textile Arts Center studio next door, calling attention to the burgeoning arts presence on West 8th Street while charting its colorful past.
