NLE Lab: Remix Rememory

In Hip-Hop Fashion on Jamaica Ave: 90s to Now, Jocelyn M. Goode weaves together three decades of fashion styles and iconography, highlighting stylistic influences that have emerged directly from Jamaica Avenue since the 1990s. Influences range from Shirt Kings and designer brands like FUBU, Phat Farm, S&D Underground, and G-Unit, which originated and rose to fame right here in Queens.
Goode’s site-responsive installation reaches across generations to reflect changes in fashion, teach young people about this past, and inform elders about how many of today’s trends originate from and circle right back to Jamaica, Queens. Visitors are invited to remix clothing, hairstyles and accessories throughout the space, thereby customizing new styles and trends.
