When You Cut into the Present the Future Leaks Out

In her sculptures, Michelle Lopez pursues the threshold of strength and fragility, often by “making macho sculpture feminine” with material such as metal, steel, and smoked glass. For the Old Bronx Borough Courthouse, Lopez creates a site-specific installation with video, sound, and sculpture that alludes to the phenomenon of birds misreading their own reflection in glass and attacking their own image.
