If You Build It

new renaissance sessions, 2014
Social sculpture.
Davis’ self-described social sculpture taps into the talents of fellow new Renaissance practitioners and young Harlem artists. Inspired by historic Sugar Hill residents who opened their homes to musicians for public appreciation, the artist will host a series of intimate performances and readings throughout the exhibition period, using her installation as a platform for local rappers, singers, producers and poets. By filling the installation space with domestic elements purchased from neighborhood Goodwill stores (to be donated back at the end of the exhibition), she seeks to evoke the aura of a private home that celebrates the creative energy of her generation.
