The No Longer Empty team convenes interdisciplinary expertise in institutional art curation, arts education, and creative placemaking. This informs our distinctive approach to creative interim use, which has evolved into a replicable and scalable model for dealing with sites of all shapes and sized and budgets small or large.
As part of our mission to build resilience of place, we seek to inspire diverse stewards within communities to see the opportunity in empty. No Longer Empty offers valuable insight into the planning, implementation, challenges, and measurable benefits of creative interim use that can support the achievement of desired outcomes. NLE's method includes strategies for bringing diverse stakeholders to the table and drawing upon the inherent strength and assets of the community.
Below is an example of services provided through NLE Consulting, which is always tailored to the specific need and context:
Presentation and Workshop: Presentation on curatorial, programming, and urban planning topics with case studies. Participants guided through use of templates with discussion of logistics (e.g., securing a site, working with property owners, insurance, and community outreach).
Site Assessment: A site visit to evaluate and make recommendations on curatorial strategies, programming, and/or other feasible interventions.
Curatorial Services: For exhibitions, homes, offices, hotels, and other commercial spaces.
Exhibition Planning and Production: Comprehensive support for each phase including site research, curation, programming, outreach, and evaluation methods. NLE manuals for project management and visitor services offered.
Maps: A custom illustrative map to strengthen the identity of the neighborhood and highlight local businesses, community organizations, cultural producers, green spaces, and/or restaurants.
Vacant Lots: Advising on installations, murals, programming, temporary infrastructures, and strategies for open-air environments.
During NLE's exhibition season, we also offer space rentals, exhibition and neighborhood tours, and art rentals or acquisitions.
With knowledge accumulated over its exhibitions history, NLE has advised constituencies at home and abroad that include New York City Council, "Art in Empty Storefronts" for Manhattan's Community Board 3, the City of Milan, and the Ministry of Sweden in addition to property owners and community-based organizations. Additional forums through which NLE lent expertise include Republic of Colombia's TEDx Salon, Philip Glass House Conversations, and the 13th International Architecture Biennale in Venice, Italy.
