Transmutations: An Evolutionary Exploration of Jamaica

Saturday, July 16 2016
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Jamaica, Queens, consists of a diverse group of people and reflects that diversity in its stores, neighborhoods, restaurants, and historical remnants. Transmutations is an exploration of Jamaica's rich history, its transformations, and the people who live here told through interviews with local residents, intertwined with personal experiences. Queens poet Stephanie Davis, will create a series of poems, re-imagining the oral histories she gathered about living in Jamaica.

Join us for a culminating reading event where Stephanie, joined with other local poets, will channel the spirit of their hometown.

Special thanks to Lori Wallach and Natalie Milbrodt of the Queens Memory Project for their support. This project is made possible (in part) by the Queens Council on the Arts with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
