Be My Guest: The Art of Interiors
15 East 70 Street, New York 10021
Description
Presented on the occasion of the launch of a new magazine, Galerie, dedicated to the intersecting worlds of art and design.
Staged in a luxurious Upper East Side apartment, the exhibition presents a series of work in which artists take the domestic setting as subject or starting point of their compositions. In their hands, the theme of home, the symbolic embodiment of safety, family and security becomes through distance, scale and irony a commentary on belonging, sexual or racial identity, consumerism and human aspiration.
Curated by Manon Slome, Chief Curator and Co-Founder, No Longer Empty and No Longer Empty's board member Michael Steinberg, art advisor and Artistic Director of Galerie. Furniture and decorative objects curated by Lisa Fayne Cohen.
A selection of artworks created and curated by members of the Hetrick-Martin Institute’s Youth Art and Culture Program is also on view.
Viewing by appointment only, Tuesday–Saturday, 11am–5pm (last available appointment is 4pm). To schedule, email bmg@fremontblueevents.com.
